Abstract
The present invention provides methods and compositions to reduce growth of microbial colonies, including infections, and includes therapeutic compositions, methods for treatment of infections, and methods for identifying additional such compositions.
Claims21
A chimeric Tail Associated Muralytic Enzyme (TAME) polypeptide, wherein the chimeric TAME polypeptide comprises a muralytic domain (MD) and a heterologous cell binding domain (CBD) that binds to a target bacterium, wherein the target bacterium exhibits reduced or no growth after being contacted with the chimeric TAME polypeptide.

A substantially pure or isolated polypeptide:
- a) comprising at least 85% identity over a segment of at least 17 amino acids to residues 1-808, 297-808, 363-808, 603-808, 620-808, or 691-805 of ORF56;
- b) comprising at least 90% identity over a segment of at least 24 amino acids to residues 691-805 of ORF56;
- or
- c) comprising a plurality of distinct segments of a least 85% identity to ORF56, which segments do not overlap.
19-27. (canceled)
An isolated bacteriocidal polypeptide comprising
- a) a Tail Associated Murein-degrading Enzyme (TAME) polypeptide, wherein the TAME polypeptide degrades the cell wall of a bacterium, and
- b) heterologous targeting domain, wherein the targeting domain binds to the bacterial cell wall.
