Abstract
An alignment film for liquid crystal display device includes a first portion positioned towards to the liquid crystal layer and a second portion positioned away from the liquid crystal layer. The first portion provides improved anchoring force while the second portion exhibits a lower volume resistance than the first portion. Thus, AC image sticking and DC image sticking can be minimized at the same time.
Claims19
A liquid crystal display device comprising:
- a common electrode and a pixel electrode disposed on one of a first substrate and a second substrate;
- an alignment film on each of the first substrate and the second substrate;
- and
- a negative dielectric anisotropy liquid crystal layer disposed between the alignment film of the first and second substrates, wherein the alignment film on at least one of the substrates has a polyimide chain with a molecular weight of 100,000 Da or more.
A liquid crystal display device comprising:
- a liquid crystal layer interposed between a pair of alignment films, wherein the alignment films are formed from a solution of a precursor mixture dissolved in an organic solvent, the first precursor with a photo-decomposable material and the second precursor without the photo-decomposable material, wherein the second precursor has a higher weight average molecular weight than a weight average molecular weight of the first precursor.
A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, the method comprising:
- forming a multi-layered precursor structure on a substrate, the multi-layered precursor structure having a first precursor layer comprising polyimide with cyclobutane and a second precursor layer comprising polyamic acid without cyclobutane;
- heating the multi-layered precursor structure to form an alignment film on the substrate, the alignment film having a first portion formed from the first precursor layer and a second portion formed form the second precursor layer;
- and
- irradiating the alignment film with linearly polarized UV light to provide anisotropy in the alignment film.
