Abstract
A communication system and method provide fight detection capability. Bodily parameters associated with fighting, such as limb movements, are pre-stored and individualized for a particular user. The characterization of a fight using limb movements allows for a system that can recognize a fight even when a user is unable to call for assistance. Other bodily parameters are further monitored and weighted to distinguish a fight from other activities. The automatic notification to a dispatch center or control center and notification to peer radios expedites the ability to bring aid to the user.
Claims23
A communication system, comprising:
- a portable communication device;
- and
- a plurality of body worn sensors operatively coupled to the portable communication device, the portable communication device comprising a controller and a transceiver for monitoring the body worn sensors to automatically detect predetermined parameters indicative of a fight, and the portable communication device generating an output signal in response thereto.
A method for a communication system to detect a fight, comprising:
- determining a running context of a subject within the system;
- obtaining a personal activity level when the subject running context indicates that the subject is not running;
- comparing the personal activity threshold to a predetermined activity level threshold;
- measuring movement of the subject's limbs when the personal activity threshold exceeds the predetermined activity level threshold;
- comparing the measured limb movement to a predetermined limb movement threshold;
- and
- detecting a fight in response to the measured limb movement exceeding the predetermined limb movement threshold.
A method for a communication system to detect a fight, comprising:
- obtaining bodily parameter measurements by body worn sensors;
- and
- detecting a fight, by a controller of a body worn device, in response to the obtained bodily parameter measurements exceeding a predetermined threshold.
A communication system, comprising:
- a portable two-way radio having a camera and sensors operatively coupled thereto, the sensors for gathering sensor data indicative of a fight, and the camera recording video of the fight in response thereto;
- and
- a central control station for receiving and storing the video of the fight and sending a signal to at least one peer radio within the system alerting the at least one peer radio of the fight.
