Managing Transitions of Adaptive Display Rates for Different Video Playback Scenarios

An article of manufacture comprising:

• a computer storage medium;
• computer program instructions stored on the computer storage medium which, when processed by a processing device, instruct the processing device to perform a process comprising:
• receiving a request from an application to present a frame at a custom refresh rate;
• buffering the frame;
• storing timing data for displaying the frame at the custom refresh rate and at a standard refresh rate different from the custom refresh rate;
• and
• displaying the buffered frame on a display according to the timing data.

A computer comprising:

• a memory,
• a processor connected to the memory and programmed to implement an operating system configured to:
• receive a request from an application to present a frame at a custom refresh rate;
• buffer the frame;
• store timing data for displaying the frame at the custom refresh rate and a standard refresh rate different from the custom refresh rate;
• and
• display the buffered frame on a display according to the stored timing data.
