## Abstract

A vented pressurized gas-powered actuator includes a housing having a central longitudinal axis and an inner surface. The inner surface has a constant radius between first and second planes extending perpendicular to the axis. At least one vent groove extends from the inner surface in a direction away from the axis. The at least one vent groove has a first end intersecting the first plane and a second end intersecting the second plane.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A vented pressurized gas-powered actuator comprising:
a housing having a central longitudinal axis and an inner surface, the inner surface having a constant radius between first plane and second planes extending perpendicular to the axis; and
at least one vent groove extending from the inner surface in a direction away from the axis, the at least one groove having a first end intersecting the first plane, and a second end intersecting the second plane.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The actuator of claim 1 wherein the inner surface defines a cylindrical volume, and wherein the groove resides outside the cylindrical volume.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The actuator of claim 1 further comprising another groove extending from the inner surface in a direction away from the axis.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 wherein the other groove has a first end spaced apart from the first plane.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The actuator of claim 4 wherein the other groove has a second end spaced apart from the second plane, and wherein the other groove second end is closer to the second plane than to the first plane.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The actuator of claim 4 wherein the other groove has a second end intersecting the second plane.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 wherein the at least one groove first end resides along a third plane located between the first and second planes, the at least one groove second end resides along a fourth plane located between the third and second planes, and wherein the other groove has a first end residing along the third plane and a second end residing along the fourth plane.

### Claim 8 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 further comprising a third groove extending from the inner surface in a direction away from the axis.

### Claim 9 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 wherein the other groove has a first end intersecting the first plane and a second end intersecting the second plane.

### Claim 10 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 wherein the other groove is positioned diametrically opposite the at least one groove.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The actuator of claim 8 wherein the at least one groove, the other groove and the third groove are equi-angularly spaced about the axis and along the inner surface

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The actuator of claim 1 further comprising a gas generator, and a piston movably positioned within the housing, the piston having a cavity formed therein along a side of the piston facing the gas generator.

### Claim 13

A vented pressurized gas-powered actuator housing comprising an inner surface and at least one vent groove extending from the inner surface into the wall.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The housing of claim 13 wherein the housing has a central longitudinal axis, the inner surface has a constant radius between first plane and second planes extending perpendicular to the axis, and wherein the at least one groove has a first end intersecting the first plane and a second end intersecting the second plane.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

An actuator including a housing in accordance with claim 13.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

A vehicle including an actuator in accordance with claim 13.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

A vehicle including an actuator in accordance with claim 1.

### Claim 18 (depends on 3)

The actuator of claim 3 wherein a longitudinal axis of the other groove resides on a plane that is perpendicular to the housing longitudinal axis.
