Abstract
Research items are stored in a research organization space within a document. The research organization space is separate from the document workspace that contains the document, itself. User inputs are provided to modify the research items or the document, by including research items within the document. Research items or document content are modified based on the user inputs.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method of authoring a document, comprising:
- obtaining a plurality of research items indicative of research material;
- displaying, a research organization display space and a document workspace, the research items being displayed in the research organization display space in the document, and document content being displayed in the document workspace, visually distinguished from the research organization display space;
- receiving a user modification input indicative of a modification to the document;
- and
- modifying the document based on the user modification input.
A research system comprising:
- a capture component that receives a material capture user input identifying research material and generates a research item representing the identified research material;
- an add component that adds the research item to a document;
- a user interface component that generates a document display that displays the document with a document workspace, that includes document content, and a research organization space that includes the research item, the document workspace and the research organization space being visually separated panes in the display;
- and
- a computer processor that is a functional part of the system and is activated by the capture component to facilitate identifying the research material, adding the research material and generating the document display.
A computer readable storage medium that stores computer readable instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform steps, comprising:
- displaying a document with a document workspace that has document content and a research organization space, visually separate from the document workspace, that has a plurality of research items, each independently movable from the research organization space into the document workspace in response to a user input;
- receiving the user input;
- and
- moving a selected research item based on the user input.
