Abstract
Disclosed are methods and kits for pharmacokinetic profiling employing point-of-care or point of service self-sampling and allowing for dosage adjustments based on the pharmacokinetic profiles.
Claims62
A method for therapeutic drug monitoring of an individual treated with a drug using pharmacokinetic profiling, the method comprising:
- constructing a pharmacokinetic profile of the drug for the individual using concentrations of drug in at least two samples obtained from the individual at time points suitable to construct a pharmacokinetic profile, the at least two samples collected at point-of-care or point of use by sampling or self-sampling on point-of-care devices or point of use devices, each capable of quantitating the drug, or on matrices suitable for storage of the at least two samples prior to quantitation of the drug by a laboratory, the pharmacokinetic profile including one or more pharmacokinetic parameters suitable for guiding dosing of the drug for the individual.

A method for therapeutic drug monitoring of an individual treated with a drug using pharmacokinetic profiling, the method comprising:
- constructing a pharmacokinetic profile of the drug for the individual using concentrations of drug in at least two samples obtained from the individual at time points suitable to construct a pharmacokinetic profile, the at least two samples collected at point of use by self-sampling on point of use devices capable of quantitating the drug, the pharmacokinetic profile including one or more pharmacokinetic parameter(s) suitable for guiding dosing of the drug for the individual.
A method for constructing a pharmacokinetic profile of a patient comprising:
- (a) treating the patient with a drug;
- (b) collecting a first blood sample from a patient by self-sampling within two (2) hours of the drug treatment;
- (c) applying the first blood sample to a point-of-use device;
- (d) determining a first set of pharmacokinetic parameters for the drug in the patient;
- (e) collecting a second blood sample from a patient by self-sampling within twelve (12) hours of the drug treatment and after the collection of the first blood sample;
- (f) applying the second blood sample to a point-of-use device;
- (g) determining a second set of pharmacokinetic parameters for the drug in the patient;
- and
- (h) comparing the first set of pharmacokinetic parameters with the second set of pharmacokinetic parameters to obtain a pharmacokinetic profile.
A method for adjusting the dosage of a drug in a patient being treated with the drug comprising:
- (a) treating the patient with a drug;
- (b) collecting a first blood sample from a patient by self-sampling within two (2) hours of the drug treatment;
- (c) applying the first blood sample to a point-of-use device;
- (d) determining a first set of pharmacokinetic parameters for the drug in the patient;
- (e) collecting a second blood sample from a patient by self-sampling within twelve (12) hours of the drug treatment and after the collection of the first blood sample;
- (f) applying the second blood sample to a point-of-use device;
- (g) determining a second set of pharmacokinetic parameters for the drug in the patient;
- and
- (h) comparing the first set of pharmacokinetic parameters with the second set of pharmacokinetic parameters to obtain a pharmacokinetic profile for the patient.
- (i) comparing the pharmacokinetic profile of the patient with an idealized pharmacokinetic profile for the drug;
- and
- (j) adjusting the dosage of the drug for treating the patient based on the comparison between the pharmacokinetic profile of the patient with an idealized pharmacokinetic profile for the drug.
