A blend for the production of a refractory material containing sintered chromium oxide, comprising the following components:
- 1.1 at least 20% by weight of chromium oxide;
- 1.2 magnesium titanate;
- 1.3 optionally, other components.
A refractory material comprising:
- 5.1 sintered chromium oxide;
- 5.2 magnesium chromite;
- 5.3 titanium dioxide;
- 5.4 optionally, other components.

A method comprising:
- using magnesium titanate as a sintering aid to support sintering of chromium oxide when firing blends comprising chromium oxide.
