Abstract
A gel mass is provided that is useful for manufacturing enteric soft capsules without coating.
Claims21
An enteric soft capsule shell formed from a gel mass composition comprising:
- (a) gelatin;
- (b) methacrylic acid copolymer;
- (c) a plasticizer;
- (c) an alkaline aqueous solvent;
- and
- (d) water;
- wherein
- the weight ratio range of methacrylic acid copolymer to gelatin in the gel mass is from about 30% to about 40%;
- the weight ratio of plasticizer to the combined weight of gelatin and methacrylic acid copolymer in the gel mass is about 1:2;
- and
- the final pH of the gel mass is about pH 8.5.

The enteric soft capsule shell of claim 12, wherein the plasticizer is glycerol and triethyl citrate.
The enteric soft capsule shell of claim 15, wherein the alkaline aqueous solvent is ammonia.

- (a) gelatin;
- (b) methacrylic acid copolymer;
- (d) glycerol;
- (c) ammonia;
- and
- (d) water;
- wherein
- the weight ratio range of methacrylic acid copolymer to gelatin in the composition is from about 30% to about 40%;
- the weight ratio of plasticizer to the combined weight of gelatin and methacrylic acid copolymer in the composition is about 50%
- the final pH of the composition about pH 8.5;
- and
- the final moisture content of composition is from about 2% to about 10%.
