Abstract
Certain exemplary embodiments can provide a strike plate adapted to receive bolts of latching and locking door hardware on a door. The strike plate can comprise a rigid material. The strike plate can have a lip on one side edge thereof. The strike plate can have a thickness such that, when installed, the strike plate protrudes from a plane of a rabbet of a door frame such that a clearance between the locking door hardware and the strike plate is reduced.
Claims9
A system comprising:
- a strike plate adapted to receive a door hardware bolt, said door hardware bolt coupled to a swinging door, said strike plate comprising a rigid material, said strike plate having a lip on one side edge thereof, said strike plate having a selected thickness such that, when installed, causes said strike plate to protrude from a plane of a rabbet of a door frame such that a clearance between locking door hardware and said strike plate is reduced to within a predetermined tolerance, said strike plate defining:
- at least one cutout, said at least one cutout adapted to receive said door hardware bolt;
- a plurality of screw holes, each of said plurality of screw holes adapted to couple said strike plate to said door frame, said screw holes having a diameter that is less than approximately two millimeters greater than a major diameter of screws adapted to couple said strike plate to said door frame;
- and
- a plurality of grooves extending outwardly from near said at least one cutout to near an edge of said lip, said grooves adapted to reduce a surface area of said strike plate contacting said door hardware bolt, thereby reducing friction as said door hardware bolt moves across said strike plate.

A system comprising:
- a strike plate comprising a rigid fire resistant material, said strike plate having a sufficient thickness to protrude beyond a plane of a rabbet of a door frame, said strike plate adapted to reduce a clearance between a door and a front face of said strike plate to within dimensional tolerances specified by National Fire Protection Association's publication 80, said strike plate comprising:
- a back face adapted to be placed in direct contact with a mortised pocket in said door frame;
- said front face, said front face opposing to said back face;
- a top edge;
- a bottom edge;

- a left side edge, wherein one of said right side edge and said left side edge defines a lip that extends from near a cutout of said front face to beyond an edge of said mortised pocket;
- said strike plate defining:
- said cutout, said cutout adapted to receive a door hardware bolt;
- a plurality of grooves extending from near said cutout to near an edge of said lip, said grooves defining a plurality of recesses and raised planar faces, said grooves adapted to reduce a surface area of said strike plate that contacts said door hardware bolt as said door hardware bolt moves across said strike plate;
- and
- a plurality of screw holes in said front face, said screw holes having a diameter that is less than approximately three millimeters greater than a major diameter of screws adapted to couple said strike plate to said door frame in said mortised pocket.
10 more elements
A system comprising:
- a strike plate comprising a rigid material, said strike plate having a sufficient thickness to protrude beyond a plane of a rabbet in a door frame, when installed said strike plate adapted to reduce a clearance between door hardware and a front face of said strike plate to meet a predetermined dimensional tolerance and thereby activating an auxiliary deadlatch function of locking door hardware as a door hardware bolt projects into a cutout of said strike plate, said strike plate comprising:
- a back face adapted to directly contact a mortised pocket in said door frame;
- said front face, said front face opposing said back face;
- a top edge;
- a bottom edge;
- a right side edge;
- and
- a left side edge, one of said right side edge or said left side edge comprising a lip that extends from an approximate edge of a cutout to beyond an edge of said mortised pocket;
- said strike plate defining:
- said cutout, said cutout adapted to receive said door hardware bolt;
- a plurality of grooves extending from near said cutout to near an edge of said lip, said plurality of grooves adapted to reduce a surface area of said strike plate contacted by said door hardware bolt thereby reducing friction as said door hardware bolt moves across said strike plate;
- a plurality of screw holes in said front face wherein said screw holes are sized to dimensions minimally greater than a major diameter of screws used to attach said strike plate to said door frame, said screws adapted to couple said strike plate to said door frame in said mortised pocket.
9 more elements
A system comprising:
- a strike plate comprising a rigid material, said strike plate adapted for latching and locking door hardware devices that are no longer in production, said strike plate having:
- a back face adapted to fit into a mortised pocket in a door frame;
- a front face opposing said back face;
- a top edge;
- a bottom edge;
- a right side edge;
- and
- a left side edge with one of said right side edge and said left side edge comprising a lip that extends from near an edge of a cutout to beyond an edge of a mortised pocket defined by a door frame;
- said strike plate defining:
- said cutout, said cutout adapted to receive a door hardware bolt;
- a plurality of grooves extending from near said cutout to near an edge of said lip, wherein said grooves define a plurality of recesses and raised planar faces, said grooves adapted to reduce a surface area of said strike plate in contact with said door hardware bolt as said door hardware bolt moves across said strike plate causing doors to close easily;
- and
- a plurality of screw holes, said screw holes sized to dimensions minimally greater than a major diameter of screws used to couple said strike plate to said door frame, said screws adapted to couple said strike plate to said door frame in said mortised pocket;
- wherein said strike plate has a thickness adapted to reduce a clearance between door hardware and said front face to within an industry standard dimensional tolerance thereby activating auxiliary deadlatch function of locking door hardware as said door hardware bolt projects into said cutout.
