Abstract
A reduced solar aborptivity appliqué having a surface layer for adhering to an surface and high aspect ratio microstructures extending from the surface layer having pigmentation or spectral tailoring.
Claims20
An array of riblets comprising:
- a bright white surface layer and
- spaced tips with pigmented coloration extending from the surface layer.
An aircraft structure comprising:
- a reduced solar absorptivity appliqué having
- a plurality tips with a pigmentation and a bright white surface layer formed from a high elongation elastomeric material selected from a set of polyurethanes, polyureas, polysulfides, epoxy-based elastomers, silicones, fluoroelastomers such as perfluoroether, fluorosilicones, EPDM elastomers;
- a polymer support layer selected from the set of polyurethanes, silicones, epoxy, polysulfide, ethylene propylenediene, fluorosilicone, and fluoroelastomers;
- a cladding of quantum dots overlaying the tips;
- and,
- an adhesive layer deposited on the polymer support layer to form a multi layer appliqué, said adhesive layer adhering the appliqué to a surface of the aircraft.
3 more elements
A method for fabricating an array of riblets comprising:
- forming a complementary tool from a master tool to provide grooves and intermediate flat surfaces;
- depositing riblet tips having coloring in the grooves of the complementary tool and a bright white surface layer overlaying the tips and intermediate flat surfaces of the complementary tool;
- depositing an adhesive layer to form an appliqué;
- removing the appliqué from the complementary tool;
- and,
- adhering the appliqué to an aerodynamic surface.
3 more elements
A method for reduction of solar absorptivity comprising:
- preparing an appliqué having colored riblet tips and a bright white surface layer and
- adhering the appliqué to a surface.
