Abstract
A geographical information system (GIS) is described that enables querying, analysis and visualization of real-time streaming data pertaining to at least one moving object or entity (e.g., vehicles, people, sensors, weather phenomena, etc.) in conjunction with relatively static multi-temporal geospatial data. An application programming interface is provided to present the GIS functionality for handling dynamically moving objects or entities to clients.
Claims38
One or more computer readable storage media having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by one or more computing devices, direct the one or more computing devices to perform a method comprising:
- in response to receiving a real-time information request, getting information from at least one sensor capturing information related to an object indicated by the real-time information request;
- in response to receiving a historical trajectory request, getting historical information pertaining to an object indicated by the historical trajectory request from a database;
- and
- in response to receiving a search window trajectory request, getting information about one or more moving objects within a search window from at least one sensor within a geographic region associated with the search window, from information associated with the search window that is stored in the database, or from both the at least one sensor within the geographic region associated with the search window and the information associated with the search window that is stored in the database.
A system comprising:
- an application programming interface embodied on one or more computer readable media for execution on a computer system in conjunction with a geographical information system (GIS), the application programming interface comprising:
- a real-time information function that receives a real-time information request to get information related to an object indicated by the real-time information request and returns a stream of information reflecting locations and/or readings of at least one sensor capturing information related to the object indicated by the real-time information request;
- a historical trajectory function that receives a historical trajectory request to get historical information pertaining to an object indicated by the historical trajectory request and returns the historical information pertaining to the object indicated by the historical trajectory request from a database;
- and
- a search window function that receives a search window trajectory request to get information about one or more moving objects within a search window and returns information about the one or more moving objects within the search window from at least one sensor, within a geographic region associated with the search window, from information associated with the search window that is stored in the database, or from both the at least one sensor within the geographic region associated with the search window and the information associated with the search window that is stored in the database.
A method of rendering a user interface to a geographical information system (GIS), comprising:
- presenting a geographical visualization view of a region in the user interface to the GIS, the geographical visualization view comprising a map of the region and one or more objects in the region that may move over time;
- and
- in response to receiving a video request selection of a particular video sensor of the one or more objects in the geographical visualization view of the region, invoking a video request for the particular video sensor and displaying a video stream of streaming video from the particular video sensor that is received in response to the video request.
A method of rendering a user interface to a geographical information system (GIS), comprising:
- presenting a geographical visualization view of a region in the user interface to the GIS, the geographical visualization view comprising a map of the region and trajectories of one or more objects in the region that may move over time;
- and
- allowing a user to select an object of the one or more objects in the region and/or a point in time by an interaction with the map at or within a buffer around a rendered polyline of a particular trajectory of the object of the one or more objects in the region, whereby a selected object is determined as the object of the nearest trajectory to a point or region of the interaction and a selected point in time is determined as the point in time at which the object was located at a point on the particular trajectory closest to the point or region of the interaction,
- wherein selection of the object and/or the point in time at least indicates an interest in a visualization of the map in space and/or time.
