Abstract
Embodiments provide a viewer/editor for schema-less data, such as a NoSQL database. The data structures are displayed so that each entity type in the data uses a different color and variable column widths. This allows the user to identify relationships between entities. For a selected entity, only the properties applicable to that entity are displayed by the viewer/editor. The column width for each property is optimized to reduce confusion and to allow the user to focus on the selected data.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method for distinguishing between entity types for heterogeneous data stored in a schema-less table, comprising:
- for each entity in the table, automatically identifying a group of properties associated with the entity;
- designating entities having a same group of associated properties as an entity type;
- and
- automatically assigning a unique identifier to the entity type.
A computer-implemented method for optimizing the visualization of properties for entity types stored in a schema-less table, comprising:
- determining a number of columns to be displayed for a selected entity type;
- determining a total width available on the user display;
- calculating a default width of the columns to be displayed;
- calculating a required width for each of the columns to be displayed;
- identifying a group of columns that have a required width that is less than the default width;
- and
- setting the display width of each column in the group to the required width for that column.
A computer-readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by at least one processor cause the at least one processor to perform a method for displaying heterogeneous data contained in a schema-less table, the method comprising:
- for each entity in the table, automatically identifying a group of properties associated with the entity;
- designating an entity type for entities having a same set of associated properties;
- assigning a unique identifier to the entity type;
- detecting a user selection of an entity in the table;
- identifying a selected entity type for the selected entity;
- and
- modifying the user display by optimizing a width of properties for the selected entity type.
