Systems and methods for transitioning between pedometer modes

An electronic device for seamlessly switching between multiple exercise modes, the electronic device comprising:

• an input component;
• and
• circuitry that:
• counts discrete elements of an exercise goal in an ambient exercise mode of the electronic device by incrementing a first counter for each discrete element of the exercise goal counted in the ambient exercise mode;
• receives from the input component a first input to start a session exercise mode of the electronic device;
• switches to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal in the session exercise mode in response to receiving the first input by incrementing a second counter for each discrete element of the exercise goal counted in the session exercise mode, wherein the second counter is separate from the first counter;
• receives from the input component a second input to end the session exercise mode;
• and
• switches back to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal in the ambient exercise mode in response to receiving the second input.

Non-transitory machine-readable media for switching between an ambient exercise mode of an electronic device and a session exercise mode of the electronic device, the non-transitory machine-readable media comprising machine-readable instructions recorded thereon for:

• counting discrete elements of an exercise goal when the electronic device is in the ambient exercise mode;
• receiving a first input at the electronic device when the electronic device is in the ambient exercise mode;
• switching to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal in the session exercise mode of the electronic device in response to receiving the first input;
• receiving a second input at the electronic device when the electronic device is in the session exercise mode;
• and
• switching back to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal in the ambient exercise mode of the electronic device in response to receiving the second input.

A method for seamlessly switching between an ambient exercise mode of an electronic device and a session exercise mode of the electronic device, the method comprising:

• counting discrete elements of an exercise goal using the electronic device in the ambient exercise mode, wherein the counting of discrete elements of the exercise goal in the ambient exercise mode comprises incrementing a first counter for each discrete element of the exercise goal counted in the ambient exercise mode;
• receiving a first input using the electronic device to start the session exercise mode;
• in response to receiving the first input, switching to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal using the electronic device in the session exercise mode, wherein the counting of discrete elements of the exercise goal in the session exercise mode comprises incrementing a second counter for each discrete element of the exercise goal counted in the session exercise mode, wherein the second counter is separate from the first counter;
• receiving a second input using the electronic device to end the session exercise mode;
• and
• in response to receiving the second input, switching back to counting discrete elements of the exercise goal using the electronic device in the ambient exercise mode.
