Abstract
A robot controllable by a portable device, the robot including a head configured to removably retain the portable device, a support removably mounted to the head, and a base mounted to the support, the base including a first wheel coaxially aligned with a second wheel and a balancing mechanism configured to maintain the head within a predetermined range of angular positions relative to a gravity vector based on instructions received from the portable device.
Claims21
A robot comprising:
- a first computing device configured to receive driving instructions from a second computing device remote from the first computing device;
- a head configured to removably retain the first computing device;
- a support removably mounted to the head;
- a base mounted to the support distal the head, the base comprising a first and second coaxially aligned wheel, the base connected to the first computing device and operable based on the driving instructions received from the first computing device;
- and
- a balancing mechanism operable between:
- an active mode wherein the balancing mechanism actively balances the robot on the first and second wheels based on balancing instructions received from the first computing device;
- and
- a standby mode.
A robot controllable by a portable device, the robot comprising:
- a support;
- a base mounted to the support, the base comprising:
- a first wheel coaxially aligned with a second wheel;
- and
- a balancing mechanism configured to maintain an end of the support distal the base within a predetermined range of angular positions relative to a gravity vector based on instructions received from the portable device.
A method for robot control by a first computing device, comprising:
- at the first device:
- detecting a physical connection to the robot;
- determining a device position based on orientation sensor measurements;
- in response to the device position falling outside a predetermined position range, automatically generating orientation control instructions for the robot to bring the device position within the predetermined position range;
- sending the orientation control instructions to the robot;
- and
- in response to receipt of a set of driving instructions from a second device remote from the first device, sending the driving control instructions to the robot.
