Abstract
The embodiments disclosed herein relate to lockable syringe assemblies and related devices and methods. The syringe assembly may include a barrel, a plunger, and a locking mechanism. In some arrangements, the locking mechanism is an elastomeric locking ring or a rigid partial ring. The plunger may include a plurality of ribs and is longitudinally moveable within the barrel. Once the plunger is disposed at a desired longitudinal location, the plunger can be axially rotated and locked in such a way that further longitudinal movement is restricted.
Claims20
A syringe assembly, comprising:
- a barrel;
- a plunger;
- and
- a locking mechanism operable coupled to the barrel and the plunger;
- wherein the locking mechanism selectively permits and restricts relative movement between the barrel and the plunger.
A syringe assembly, comprising:
- a barrel;
- a plunger comprising a rib;
- and
- a locking mechanism comprising a locking surface engageable with the rib;
- wherein the syringe assembly is configured to be disposed in an unlocked configuration wherein the plunger is longitudinally moveable within the barrel, and a locked configuration wherein longitudinal movement of the plunger is restricted;
- and
- wherein the rib is engaged with the locking surface in the locked configuration.
A syringe assembly, comprising:
- a barrel comprising a proximal end and a distal end;
- a plunger;
- and
- a first partial ring disposed within the barrel, operably connected to the plunger, and configured to restrict or allow longitudinal movement of the plunger based on the rotational position of the plunger.
A method of applying negative gauge pressure to a patient, comprising:
- obtaining a syringe assembly comprising a barrel, a plunger, and a locking mechanism comprising a cam surface;
- withdrawing the plunger within the barrel to establish a negative gauge pressure within the barrel;
- and
- axially rotating the plunger with respect to the barrel such that the cam surface transitions from an unlocked configuration to a locked configuration to maintain negative gauge pressure.
