Abstract
Methods for producing functionalized graphene from graphite oxide or graphite are disclosed in which ionic liquids are used as a reaction medium to promote chemical functionalization of the graphene through electrochemically interacted exfoliation of graphene sheets.
Claims58
A method for producing functionalized graphene, the method comprising contacting graphite oxide with at least one functionalizing compound in the presence of at least one first ionic liquid at a pressure, temperature, and for a period of time to exfoliate, reduce and functionalize the graphite oxide to produce functionalized graphene.
A composition, comprising graphene oxide, an ionic liquid, and a functionalizing compound.
A functionalized graphene comprising a graphene moiety functionalized with at least one silane moiety, wherein the graphene moiety is covalently linked with the silane moiety through a carboxylate group.
