Abstract
The present invention relates to novel dispersants based on reaction products of two and one moles respectively of the branched ester alcohol or alkokylated ester alcohol with maleic anhydride that has been subjected to a further sulfonation reaction. The compounds are useful as dispersing and wetting agents. The invention further relates to the use of the dispersants of the invention to produce stable aqueous dispersions of high performance thermoplastic polymers.
Claims20
A dispersant selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formula:
- where R is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C1-C10 alkyl;
- n= from about 1 to about 100;
- and M+ is an alkali metal cation or ammonium cation and NR3+ is a trialkylammonium group where each R group has 1-5 carbon atoms.
An aqueous polymer dispersion comprising:
- (a) a thermoplastic resin;
- and (b) a dispersant selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formula:
- where R is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C1-C10 alkyl;
- n= from about 1 to about 100;
- and M+ is an alkali metal cation or ammonium cation and NR3+ is a trialkylammonium group where each R group has 1-5 carbon atoms.
