Abstract
The present invention is directed to antiviral compositions that provide efficacy against non-envelope viruses such as noroviruses. The antiviral compositions comprise an alkyl 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid and an effective amount of a sulfonated surfactant. The composition may be used as a topical on human skin, as a hand sanitizer or as a hard surface cleaning composition.
Claims20
An antimicrobial composition having activity against non-enveloped viruses including norovirus comprising:
- a virucidally effective amount of a branched and/or linear alkyl 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid;
- an effective amount of a sulfonated surfactant;
- a linear and/or branched C1 to C6 alcohol;
- and water.
A method of reducing norovirus activity/concentration on a surface comprising:
- Contacting the surface with an anti-microbial composition comprising a virucidally effective combination of an alkyl 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid and a sulfonated surfactant.
An antiviral use solution having antimicrobial activity against non-enveloped viruses including norovirus where the use solution comprises:
- from about 0.05 weight percent to about 99 weight percent of a C1 to C6 alcohol;
- from about 0.02 weight percent to about 10 weight percent of an alkyl 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid;
- from about 0.01 weight percent to about 10 weight percent of a sulfonated surfactant;
- and water.
