Abstract
The present invention is directed to antiviral compositions that provide efficacy against non-envelope viruses such as noroviruses. The antiviral compositions comprise an alcohol and a synergistic combination of an aromatic carboxylic acid and an aromatic hydroxyamide. The composition may be used as a topical on human skin, as a hand sanitizer or as a hard surface cleaning composition.
Claims18
An antimicrobial composition having activity against non-enveloped viruses including norovirus comprising:
- a virucidally effective amount of an aromatic carboxylic acid and an aromatic hydroxyamide;
- a C1-C6 linear and/or branched alcohol;
- and water.
A method of reducing norovirus activity/concentration on a surface comprising:
- Contacting the surface with an antiviral composition comprising a virucidally effective combination of a C1-C6 linear and/or branched alcohol, an aromatic carboxylic acid and an aromatic hydroxyamide.
An antiviral use solution having virucidal activity against non-enveloped viruses including norovirus where the use solution comprises
- from about 0.05 weight percent to about 90 weight percent of a C1 to C6 linear and/or branched alcohol;
- from about 0.02 weight percent to about 5.0 weight percent of an aromatic carboxylic acid;
- from about 0.02 weight percent to about 5.0 weight percent of an aromatic hydroxyamide and water.
