Sprayable Hemostat Using Soluble Oxidized Cellulose With Miniaturized Electrospray System And Method

An applicator for forming a film comprising:

• a first extension tube coupled to a source of a modified cellulose solution;
• a second extension tube coupled to a source of a cross-linking agent;
• a shaft coupled to the first and second extension tubes at a proximal end thereof, the shaft defining a first lumen in fluid communication with the first extension tube for transmission of the modified cellulose solution through the shaft and a second lumen in fluid communication with the second extension tube for transmission of the cross-linking agent through the shaft;
• and
• a tip member disposed at a distal end of the shaft, the tip member comprising an atomizer configured to atomize the modified cellulose solution and the cross-linking agent into a plurality of particles.

A process for forming a film at a treatment site comprising:

• supplying a modified cellulose solution to a first lumen defined by a shaft;
• supplying a cross-linking agent to a second lumen defined by the shaft;
• and
• atomizing the modified cellulose solution and the cross-linking agent at a tip member coupled to the shaft to form a plurality of particles that are deposited onto the treatment site to form the film thereon.
