Combined systemic and topical treatment of disordered tissues

A method of treating disordered tissue caused by a virus in a mammal, comprising:

• systemically administering an effective amount of an anti-virus drug to a mammal in need thereof in order to disrupt or inhibit virus replication within the mammal, wherein the anti-virus drug comprises at least one of acyclovir, valaciclovir, penciclovir, famciclovir, idoxuridine, ganciclovir, cidofovir, adefovir, tenofovir, or derivative thereof;
• and
• topically administering an anti-infective composition comprising at least one anti-infective agent to the disordered tissue of the mammal in order for the composition to penetrate below the surface and allow the anti-infective agent to kill viruses at the disordered tissue site, wherein the anti-infective composition comprises an organohalide and a tissue penetrating liquid carrier,
• wherein topically administering the anti-infective composition reduces the time and/or number of dosages of the systemic anti-virus drug by at least about 10% compared to treatment of the disordered tissue using the anti-virus drug by itself in the absence of topically administering the anti-infective composition.
