A method of producing a sausage with multiple cut-planes, the method comprising:

• cutting the sausage in a direction generally parallel to a major axis of the sausage, wherein the cutting defines two or more cut-planes in the sausage, wherein the two or more cut-planes are dissimilar from each other, and wherein one and only one cut-plane intersects an outer generally cylindrical surface of the sausage.

A method of producing sausages with multiple planar areas of discontinuity, the method comprising:

• extruding a food material to create a sausage having a major axis, wherein the extruding defines two or more discontinuous-planar areas in the sausage, wherein the two or more discontinuous-planar areas are dissimilar from each other, and wherein one and only one discontinuous-planar area intersects an outer generally cylindrical surface of the sausage.

A method for making a food product, the method comprising:

• providing a sausage, the sausage having a longitudinal axis and an outer surface, wherein transverse cross-sections of the sausage at multiple points along the longitudinal axis are substantially circular;
• and
• cutting the sausage, wherein the cutting creates two or more cut planar areas, wherein each cut planar area intersects at least one other cut planar area, and wherein one and only one cut planar area intersects the outer surface.
