Abstract
Methods and devices for non-thermal PCR amplification of nucleic acid sequences. An electrical potential is applied to cause non-thermal separation of strands of a double-stranded nucleic acid or double-stranded nucleic acid/primer extension product.
Claims17
A method for separating the strands of a double-stranded nucleic acid or double-stranded nucleic acid/primer extension product, said method comprising the step of:
- applying an electrical potential to cause non-thermal separation of strands of the double-stranded nucleic acid or double-stranded nucleic acid/primer extension product;
- wherein the electrical potential is applied in the substantial absence of lithium ions or any other initiator or promoter substance that a) receives electrons from an electrode and transfers them to the double-stranded nucleic acid or double-stranded nucleic acid primer extension product and b) has a redox potential of 0 to −2 volts.
