Integrated Membrane for Preservation of Biomolecules

A method for preserving biomolecules, comprising:

• passing fluid through a matrix;
• collecting substantially all cells from the fluid in a layer of the matrix;
• adsorbing protein from the fluid in a layer of the matrix;
• and
• adsorbing nucleic acid from the fluid in a layer of the matrix.

An apparatus for separating biomolecules, comprising:

• a housing comprising a matrix portion, and a fluid collection portion disposed within an inner cavity thereof;
• wherein the housing includes an aperture permitting access to the inner cavity through which a fluid including cells enters the housing;
• and
• a matrix disposed within the matrix portion, comprising a first layer for separating a specific moiety;
• wherein the fluid enters the housing through the aperture, passes through the matrix, and into the fluid collection portion.

An apparatus for preserving biomolecules, comprising:

• a housing comprising a matrix portion, and a fluid collection portion disposed within an inner cavity thereof;
• wherein the housing includes an aperture permitting access to the inner cavity;
• and
• a matrix disposed within the matrix portion, comprising an asymmetric layer for filtering material from fluid;
• wherein fluid enters the housing through the aperture, passes through the matrix, and into the fluid collection portion.
