Abstract
A coating composition and a method for coating metallic substrates for corrosion resistance. In at least one embodiment, the coating composition comprises acid, metal acetate, epoxy silane, aminosilane and water.
Claims16
An aqueous organo sol-gel composition for coating a metallic component, the composition comprising:
- acid;
- metal acetate;
- an epoxy silane;
- an aminosilane;
- and
- water.
The composition of claim 5, wherein the metal acetate comprises zirconium acetate, magnesium acetate, or a combination thereof.
The composition of claim 9, wherein the aminosilane comprises N-2-aminoethyl-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane.
An aqueous organo sol-gel composition for coating a metallic component, the composition comprising:

A method for improving corrosion resistance of a metallic substrate, the method comprising:
- providing an aqueous organo sol-gel composition comprising:
- acid;
- metal acetate;
- epoxy silane;
- aminosilane;
- and
- water;
- depositing the composition on an aluminum alloy substrate;
- and
- allowing the composition to dry to form a sol-gel coating on the substrate.
