Abstract
An auto-cleaning marination filter for a poultry injector system including an outer housing having a liquid inlet and outlet, a screen that allows passage of liquids and impedes passage of solid particles, and a wiper surrounded by said screen for removing solid particles attached to the screen by reverse flow of the liquid through a gap in the wiper.
Claims9
An auto-cleaning marination filter for a poultry injector system, comprising:
- an outer housing having a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet;
- a screen having a top and a bottom, wherein said screen allows passage of liquids and impedes passage of solid particles, wherein a first liquid containing space is formed between said outer housing and said screen;
- and
- a wiper surrounded by said screen, wherein said wiper is moveable on a tube from said top of said screen to said bottom of said screen, wherein a second liquid containing space is formed between said tube and said screen, wherein said wiper has a first piece and a second piece, wherein a gap is formed between said first piece of said wiper and said second piece of said wiper.

A method of filtering marination mixtures in a poultry injector system, comprising the steps of:
- passing a first marination mixture comprising a first volume of a liquid and a plurality of solid particles through an inlet of an auto-cleaning filter into a first liquid containing space, wherein said first liquid containing space is formed between a tube and a screen, wherein a wiper is moveable on said tube, wherein said wiper comprises a first piece and a second piece, wherein a gap is formed between said first piece of said wiper and said second piece of said wiper;
- passing said first mixture from said first liquid containing space into said screen, wherein said first volume of said liquid of said first mixture passes through said screen into a second liquid containing space, wherein at least one of said plurality of solid particles of said mixture is attached to a surface of said screen;
- passing a fraction of said first volume of said liquid from said second liquid containing space through said screen and said gap between said first piece of said wiper and said second piece of said wiper, wherein said passing of said fraction of said first volume of said liquid from said second liquid containing space through said screen releases said at least one solid particle from said surface of said screen, wherein said fraction of said first volume of said liquid and said at least one solid particle enter an internal compartment of said tube and exit said tube through a first outlet;
