Carrier materials and salt delivery compositions that can be useful in the delivery of a salt solution are disclosed, together with methods for the preparation and use thereof.

A salt delivery composition comprising a carrier material having a porous surface and one or more salt solutions disposed in at least a portion of the pores thereof.
A method comprising contacting a carrier material having a porous surface with one or more salt solutions, such that at least a portion of the one or more salt solutions is disposed in at least a portion of the pores of the carrier material.
