A composition comprising an amphiphilic polymer and one or more water-insoluble steroids with a partition coefficient of log P>3.0, wherein the amphiphilic polymer is in a nanoparticle form, the one or more water insoluble steroids are encapsulated in the nanoparticle form, and the nanoparticle form is dispersable in an aqueous medium.
A method of preparing a water-insoluble steroid encapsulated in a nanoparticle form comprising:
- dissolving at least one amphiphilic polymer and at least one water-insoluble steroid in an organic solvent to form an organic solvent stream;
- and
- rapidly mixing the organic solvent stream with an aqueous stream.
A method of treating disease comprising delivering to a patient in need thereof a composition comprising an amphiphilic polymer and one or more water-insoluble steroids with a partition coefficient of log P>3.0, wherein the amphiphilic polymer is in a nanoparticle form and the one or more water insoluble steroids are encapsulated in the nanoparticle form, and the nanoparticle form is dispersable in an aqueous medium.
