Abstract
This document provides methods and materials for providing teeth with a white appearance. For example, methods and materials are provided for contacting teeth with one or more fluorescence emitting polypeptides (e.g., a blue fluorescent protein (BFP)) and adhesive molecules (e.g., mussel adhesive polypeptides) to provide the teeth with a whiter appearance.
Claims47
A method for altering the appearance of teeth, said method comprising applying to teeth an adhesive molecule comprising a plurality of 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine (DOPA) residues and a fluorescence emitting polypeptide, said adhesive molecule having the ability to interact with or bind to a tooth, a tooth component, or inorganic dental material, and wherein fluorescence emitted from said fluorescence emitting polypeptide alters the appearance of said teeth.
A method for altering the appearance of teeth, said method comprising applying an adhesive molecule and whitening particles to teeth, said adhesive molecule comprising a plurality of DOPA residues and having the ability to interact with or bind to a tooth, a tooth component, or inorganic dental material, and wherein said whitening particles alter the appearance of said teeth.
A composition comprising a fluorescence emitting polypeptide and an adhesive molecule comprising a plurality of DOPA residues, said adhesive molecule having the ability to interact with or bind to a tooth, a tooth component, or inorganic dental material.
A composition comprising an adhesive molecule and whitening particles, said adhesive molecule comprising a plurality of DOPA residues and having the ability to interact with or bind to a tooth, a tooth component, or inorganic dental material.
A chimeric polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence of 20 or more residues in length of a fluorescence emitting polypeptide and an amino acid sequence of 20 or more residues in length of a mussel adhesive polypeptide.
