Abstract
Lung volume reduction by isolating a target lung portion from the rest of the lung with a mass of extracellular matrix (“ECM”) material. The procedure can be performed by locating a tube within the lumen of an airway to be obstructed and depositing an amount of flowable or other ECM in the open space until the lumen is occluded. Optionally, the procedure may be performed by delivering a plug substantially comprised of ECM material into the lumen of an airway to be obstructed. Further optionally, the ECM plug may include a one-way valve to allow air and mucous to escape from the isolated lung portion.
Claims29
A method for reducing lung volume, comprising delivering an extracellular matrix material into a lumen of the lung.
A method to reduce lung volume, comprising:
- locating a tube with a distal passageway in the lumen of an airway, wherein the lumen of the airway opens to a portion of the lung being isolated;
- delivering a plug comprised of extracellular matrix material out the distal passageway and into the lumen of the airway.
A plug to isolate a portion of a lung from the rest of the lung, comprising, extracellular matrix material.
The plug of 24, wherein the plug is means for plugging a portion of a lung from the rest of the lung.
