Wastewater sump assembly

A sump assembly for collecting and removing a quantity of wastewater, comprising:

• a sump, comprising:
• at least one wall defining a basin, an inlet defined through said wall and fluidly connected to a source of the wastewater to be removed, an outlet extending through said at least one wall and a vent extending through said at least one wall, said at least one wall having an interior surface for collecting the wastewater and an exterior surface opposite said interior surface and sealed from the wastewater, said at least one wall comprising a top and a bottom opposite said top, said bottom positioned below said inlet, whereby the wastewater will flow via gravity from said inlet to said bottom of said sump, the wastewater rising from said bottom of said sump toward said top of said sump as the wastewater accumulates in said sump;
• a diaphragm switch, comprising:
• a diaphragm housing;
• a diaphragm positioned in said diaphragm housing and hermetically sealed relative to said housing so as to divide said housing into a sensing chamber and a switching chamber, said sensing chamber hermetically sealed by said diaphragm from said switching chamber, said switching chamber fluidly connected to ambient pressure, said diaphragm housing positioned exterior of said basin and sealed relative to said at least one wall defining said basin, whereby said diaphragm switch is positioned external to said sump;
• a switch housed in said switching chamber;
• a riser pipe in fluid communication with said sensing chamber and said diaphragm, said riser pipe extending through said at least one wall defining said basin, said riser pipe having an open distal end spaced from said diaphragm housing, said sensing chamber of said diaphragm housing and said riser pipe hermetically sealing said diaphragm above said open distal end of said riser pipe, said riser pipe extending through said top of said basin, said diaphragm housing positioned exterior of interior surface of said at least one wall defining said basin, said riser pipe distal end positioned proximate to said bottom, whereby the wastewater can flow into said riser pipe,
• such that when said wastewater covers said open distal end of riser pipe, the wastewater cooperates with said riser pipe and said sensing chamber of said diaphragm housing to hermetically seal a sensing side of said diaphragm accessible from said sensing chamber, the wastewater capable of filling said basin to a first height covering said open distal end of said riser pipe and a second height covering said open distal end of said riser pipe, whereby increasing the wastewater from the first height to the second height increases a pressure in the sensing chamber to actuate the diaphragm to actuate said switch.

A wastewater sump, comprising:

• a basin formed from:
• a base;
• an upstanding wall extending upwardly from said base;
• and
• a top extending inwardly from said base,
• said basin having an inlet sized to allow ingress of a quantity of sump contents in the form of at least one of a liquid and a liquid/solid mixture, and an outlet to allow egress of said sump contents, said basin sized to receive a submersible pump;
• a first switch subassembly, comprising:
• a first switch access cover, said top of said basin having a switch access aperture, said first switch access cover sized to cover and seal said switch access aperture;
• a first switch connected to said first switch access cover and operable to actuate a pump based on a fluid level in said basin, said basin having a switch subassembly receiving structure, said first switch subassembly having a first switch subassembly fastening structure complimentary to said switch subassembly receiving structure of said basin to allow said first switch subassembly to be operably secured to said basin;
• a second switch subassembly, comprising:
• a second switch access cover, said second switch access cover sized to cover and seal said switch access aperture;
• a second switch connected to said second switch access cover and operable to actuate a pump based on a fluid level in said basin, said second switch being a different type of switch than said first switch, said second switch subassembly having a second switch subassembly fastening structure also complimentary to said switch subassembly receiving structure of said basin to allow said second switch subassembly to be operably secured to said basin, wherein said first switch subassembly and said second switch subassembly can be interchangeably used with said basin to present a user with a choice of switches.

A wastewater sump, comprising:

• a basin formed from:
• a base;
• an upstanding wall extending upwardly from said base;
• and
• a top extending inwardly from said upstanding wall, said base, said upstanding wall and said top formed of an integral, monolithic material, whereby no seams are presented between said base and said upstanding wall and no seams are presented between said upstanding wall and said top,
• said basin having an inlet sized to allow ingress of a quantity of sump contents in the form of at least one of a liquid and a liquid/solid mixture, and an outlet to allow egress of said sump contents, said basin sized to receive a submersible pump,
• a pump access cover, said top of said basin having a pump access aperture sized to allow passage of the submersible pump, said pump access cover sized to completely cover said pump access aperture;
• a pump access cover seal associated with said pump access cover to sealingly engage said pump access cover and said basin when said pump access cover is secured to said basin;
• and
• a plurality of fasteners for selectively securing said pump access cover to said basin, said pump access cover defining the largest opening in said top of said basin, said top defining a sump perimeter, adjacent to a transition from said upstanding wall to said top, said pump access cover defining a pump access cover perimeter, said pump access cover perimeter having a length no larger than about 60% of a length of said sump perimeter, said fasteners positionable adjacent to the pump access cover perimeter to hermetically seal said pump access cover to said basin.
