Abstract
Fasteners are disclosed herein which resist loosening even when used in applications and environments where the fastener is exposed to vibration. In one form, a two piece fastener is used for connecting multiple workpieces. In another form, a simplified fastener is disclosed for quickly and easily connecting items. In yet another form, a plug type fastener is disclosed. Other fasteners and related methods are also disclosed herein.
Claims8
A two piece fastener comprising:
- a cap defining an opening therein;
- a sleeve disposed within the opening of the outer body and aligned coaxially with the outer body about a primary axis;
- a washer coaxially aligned with the cap and sleeve and connected to the sleeve;
- a cam operator inserted at least partially through a portion of the cup and sleeve and actuable to deflect the washer and apply force to the sleeve;
- a fractional turn component that can be turned a fraction to connect to a mating mount located on an opposite side of a workpiece to be fastened or secured, the fractional turn component having an externally threaded shank that can be thread into the sleeve;
- and
- a mating mount connected on the opposite side of the workpiece and having a structure for securing the mating mount to the opposite side of the workpiece.

A simplified quick release fastener comprising:
- a sleeve defining a central opening therein and first and second recesses on a first side of the sleeve;
- a cammed actuator having first and second ends with a gripping portion therebetween, said first and second ends being positioned within the first and second recesses of the sleeve respectively;
- a resilient member defining a central opening positioned proximate the sleeve and capturing the first and second ends of the cammed actuator between the resilient member and sleeve;
- and
- a threaded insert having a flanged end and a post extending therefrom, the post defining a central opening and being disposed within the central openings of the resilient member and sleeve, the threaded insert being keyed or deformed to mate with a second side of the sleeve to connect the resilient member, cammed actuator and sleeve to one another so that the central openings of the threaded insert, resilient member and sleeve are coaxially aligned such that the threaded insert may be connected to a threaded shank.

A plug comprising:
- a plug having a connector extending from an upper surface thereof and defining first and second recesses in a portion thereof;
- a cammed actuator having first and second ends with a gripping portion therebetween, said first and second ends being positioned within the first and second recesses respectively;
- a resilient member connected to the connector of the plug and capturing the first and second ends of the cammed actuator between the resilient member and plug;
- and
- a seal positioned about the plug for being driven into contact with surface upon actuation of the cammed actuator to prevent fluid leaks.
