Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling breathing of a patient. A system for controlling breathing of a patient includes a respiratory conduit. The respiratory conduit is configured to be coupled to a patient interface device and is further configured to be coupled to a pressurized air generating device. The respiratory conduit includes at least two air flow control devices, positioned between the patient interface device and the pressurized air generating device that cooperate to closely control the CO2 levels in the patient's bloodstream through the control of the patient's respiration.
Claims9
A method for controlling the breathing of a patient comprising:
- applying a patient interface in communication with the patient's airway;
- providing a mixing device that extends from the patient interface, the mixing device comprising:
- a first orifice connected to and in fluid communication with a first control tube and terminating in a first variable flow control valve;
- a second orifice connected to and in fluid communication with a second control tube and terminating in a second variable flow control valve;
- a first volume extending between said first and second orifices;
- and
- monitoring exhaled gasses at an output of said first and second variable flow control valves via a controller;
- adjusting one or both of said first and second variable flow control valves based on a change in said exhaled gasses detected by said controller.
