Abstract
A system for identifying an electronic counterpart for a rendered document is described. The system receives an indication of a text capture operation performed from a rendered document. The indication identifies a text sequence captured as part of the text capture operation, the identified text sequence comprising fewer than nine words. In response to receiving the indication, the system uniquely identifies an electronic document from which the rendered document was rendered.

1-16. (canceled)
A method performed by data processing apparatus, the method comprising:
- receiving a text sequence captured from a print version of a document, the text sequence including an indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- identifying the document using the text sequence;
- identifying supplemental electronic materials associated with the document, the supplemental electronic materials being materials presentable using an audio or visual medium;
- determining that a request to access the identified supplemental electronic materials associated with the document is implicit in receiving the text sequence;
- determining that the text sequence includes the indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- determining that the request satisfies a set of access rules for the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the text sequence includes the indication;
- and
- enabling access to the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the request satisfies the set of access rules.
A system, comprising:
- a data processing apparatus;
- and
- a memory storage apparatus in data communication with the data processing apparatus, the memory storage apparatus storing instructions executable by the data processing apparatus and that upon such execution cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a text sequence captured from a print version of a document, the text sequence including an indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- identifying the document using the text sequence;
- identifying supplemental electronic materials associated with the document, the supplemental electronic materials being materials presentable using an audio or visual medium;
- determining that a request to access the identified supplemental electronic materials associated with the document is implicit in receiving the text sequence;
- determining that the text sequence includes the indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- determining that the request satisfies a set of access rules for the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the text sequence includes the indication;
- and
- enabling access to the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the request satisfies the set of access rules.
A computer storage medium encoded with a computer program, the program comprising instructions that when executed by a data processing apparatus cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a text sequence captured from a print version of a document, the text sequence including an indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- identifying the document using the text sequence;
- identifying supplemental electronic materials associated with the document, the supplemental electronic materials being materials presentable using an audio or visual medium;
- determining that a request to access the identified supplemental electronic materials associated with the document is implicit in receiving the text sequence;
- determining that the text sequence includes the indication that the text sequence was captured from the print version of the document;
- determining that the request satisfies a set of access rules for the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the text sequence includes the indication;
- and
- enabling access to the identified supplemental electronic materials in response to determining that the request satisfies the set of access rules.
