Abstract
A method and an electronic device for controlling a virtual keypad are provided. The method for displaying the virtual keypad of the electronic device includes detecting execution of an application allowing text input, detecting at least one touch subject within a threshold distance of a touch screen, and when detecting at least one touch subject within the threshold distance of the touch screen, displaying a virtual keypad.

A method in an electronic device, the method comprising:
- detecting execution of an application allowing text input;
- detecting at least one touch subject within a threshold distance of a touch screen;
- and
- when detecting at least one touch subject within the threshold distance of the touch screen, displaying a virtual keypad.

- at least one processor;
- a touch-sensitive display;
- a memory;
- and
- at least one program stored in the memory and configured for execution by the at least one processor,
- wherein the program comprises instructions for detecting execution of an application allowing text input, for detecting at least one touch subject within a threshold distance of a touch screen, and for displaying a virtual keypad when detecting at least one touch subject within the threshold distance of the touch screen.
