Abstract
An elastic percutaneous elastic introducer sheath is disclosed which can locally expand and reduce to accommodate a transcatheter medical device. The elastic introducer sheath includes a non-circumferentially continuous elastic frame, a liner, and a jacket.
Claims20
A surgical access system comprising:
- an introducer having an interior lumen, the lumen being configured to expand from a first diameter to a second diameter, the introducer including:
- an elastic frame, and
- a diameter retention element positioned at a distal end of the introducer to retain the distal end of the introducer at the first diameter.
A surgical access system comprising:
- an introducer having an elastic frame and an interior lumen, the lumen being configured to expand from a first diameter to a second diameter;
- and
- a dilator slidably disposed about the interior lumen, the dilator including:
- a distal tip having an outer diameter greater than the first diameter, and
- a diameter retention element positioned at a proximal end of the tip to retain a distal end of the introducer at the first diameter.

A surgical access system comprising:
- an introducer having an elastic frame and an interior lumen, the lumen being configured to expand from a first diameter to a second diameter;
- and
- a dilator slidably disposed about the interior lumen, the dilator having a first portion having a first axial stiffness and a second portion distal to the first portion, the second portion having a second axial stiffness such that the dilator is configured to bend at the second portion.
