Methods and Compositions for the Treatment of Body Weight Related Disorders

A method for increasing thermogenesis without reducing lean body mass during weight loss in an animal, comprising the step of administering to the animal, in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium, a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the structure:

• wherein R1 is H, Et, OMe or n-propyl;
• Y is CH or
• R2 is OH, OMe, or NH-i-Pr;
• R3 is H, F, or Cl;
• and
• R4 is H, Me, Cl, Br, F, OH, OBz, OCH2COOMe, OCH2COOH, NH2, NH-i-Pr, NHCOMe, NHSO2Me, NHBn,
• OMe, NHBoc,
• NHTs,
• or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a stereoisomer thereof or a combination thereof.

A method for increasing thermogenesis without reducing lean body mass during weight loss in an animal, comprising the step of administering to the animal, in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium, a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the structure:

• wherein m is 0 or 1;
• R5 is H, —OH, —O—C1-3 alkoxy, —OC(O)R7 or halogen, wherein said halogen is preferably bromine;
• R7 is C1-C3 alkyl or aryl, —OCH2—C(O)OR8;
• R8 is H or C1-C3 alkyl, —NHR9;
• R9 is H, C1-C4 alkyl, alkylcyclopropane, benzyl, —NHC(O)C1-C3 amide, —NHC(O)O—R10 carbamate;
• R10 is tert-butyl or fluorenylmethyl or —NH—SO2—R11 sulfonamide;
• R11 is alkyl or aryl;
• R6 is alkyl or R12OC(O)—;
• and
• R12 is C3-C5 alkyl or aryl;
• or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a stereoisomer thereof or a combination thereof.

A method for increasing thermogenesis without reducing lean body mass during weight loss in an animal, comprising the step of administering to the animal, in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium, a therapeutically effective amount of a compound having the structure:

• wherein R5 is H, —OH, —O—C1-3 alkoxy, —OC(O)R7 or halogen;
• R7 is C1-C3 alkyl or aryl, —OCH2—C(O)OR8;
• R8 is H, C1-C3 alkyl, or —NHR9;
• R9 is H, C1-C4 alkyl, alkylcyclopropane, benzyl, —NHC(O)C1-C3 amide, or —NHC(O)O—R10 carbamate;
• R10 is tert-butyl or fluorenylmethyl or —NH—SO2—R11 sulfonamide;
• R11 is alkyl or aryl;
• R13 is nitrogen or methylene;
• n is 0 or 1 and when n is 1, Z is —C═O;

• and
• R14 is H or C1-C3 alkyl group;
• or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a stereoisomer thereof or a combination thereof.
