Abstract
The present invention provides a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for HAM, containing pentosan polysulfate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The present invention also provides an agent for improving a HAM-associated movement disorder, containing pentosan polysulfate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.

A method of preventing or treating HTLV-I-associated myelopathy in a mammal in need thereof, which comprises administering to the mammal an effective amount of pentosan polysulfate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of improving a movement disorder of a lower leg relating to HTLV-I-associated myelopathy in a mammal in need thereof, which comprises administering to the mammal an effective amount of pentosan polysulfate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
