Abstract
Systems, apparatus and methods for reducing a long list of access points (APs) to a short list of access points are presented. Advantageously, a mobile device only needs to search for and measure access points on the short list to determine a position fix, thereby saving battery power, reducing a time to fix and/or improving location accuracy. Embodiments enable a mobile device to determine which access points should be detectable at a new location of the mobile device. Various embodiments comprise using: (1) linked APs; (2) grouped APs; (3) associated APs; and (4) feedback on APs.
Claims29
A method in a mobile device for determining a position fix from a wireless network, the method comprising:
- receiving assistance data from a location server for a first set of access points (APs) wherein the assistance data comprises relationships for the APs;
- determining location information for the mobile device;
- determining a second set of APs based on the relationships and the location information;
- obtaining location measurements for the second set of APs;
- and
- determining a location estimate based on the location measurements.
A mobile device for determining a position fix in a wireless network, the mobile device comprising:
- a wireless transceiver configured to receive assistance data from a location server for a first set of access points (APs) wherein the assistance data comprises relationships for the APs;
- and
- a processor coupled to the wireless transceiver and configured to:
- determine location information for the mobile device;
- determine a second set of APs based on the relationships and the location information;
- obtain location measurements for the second set of APs;
- and
- determine a location estimate based on the location measurements.
A mobile device for determining a position fix in a wireless network, the mobile device comprising:
- means for receiving assistance data from a location server for a first set of access points (APs) wherein the assistance data comprises relationships for the APs;
- means for determining location information for the mobile device;
- means for determining a second set of APs based on the relationships and the location information;
- means for obtaining location measurements for the second set of APs;
- and
- means for determining a location estimate based on the location measurements.
A method in a location server for providing assistance data for access points (APs) to a mobile device, the method comprising:
- determining a first set of APs;
- determining relationships for the first set of APs;
- and
- sending assistance data to the mobile device for the first set of APs, wherein the assistance data comprises the relationships.
A location server for providing assistance data for access points (APs) to a mobile device, the location server comprising:
- a processor configured to:
- determine a first set of APs;
- and
- determine relationships for the first set of APs;
- and
- a transceiver coupled to the processor and configured to send assistance data to the mobile device for the first set of APs, wherein the assistance data comprises the relationships.
A location server for providing assistance data for access points (APs) to a mobile device, the location server comprising:
- means for determining a first set of APs;
- means for determining relationships for the first set of APs;
- and
- means for sending assistance data to the mobile device for the first set of APs, wherein the assistance data comprises the relationships.
