Abstract
The present disclosure describes compositions and methods for production of isoprene from lignocellulosic plant biomass using a genetically engineered strain of a saprophytic bacteria.
Claims21
A saprophytic bacteria comprising an isoprene synthase.
A method of producing isoprene comprising
- (a) providing a saprophytic bacteria comprising an isoprene synthase;
- and
- (b) culturing the saprophytic bacteria in a media comprising a carbon source, thereby producing isoprene.
A method of producing a bacteria that produces isoprene in the presence of a carbon source comprising
- (a) providing a saprophytic bacteria;
- and
- (b) introducing to the saprophytic bacteria a heterologous nucleic acid encoding an isoprene synthase,
- thereby producing a bacteria that produces isoprene in the presence of a carbon source.
