Abstract
A carbon-sulfur composite coated with a membrane containing alternating layers of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes is provided. A cathode containing the coated carbon-sulfur composite and a battery constructed with the cathode are also provided.
Claims15
A coated carbon-sulfur composite, comprising:
- a core of carbon and sulfur or a sulfur compound;
- and in the order listed,
- A) a coating of ionically charged polymer in contact with at least a portion of an outer surface of the core;
- B) a layer of an ionically charged polymer having a charge opposite to the charge of the coating A) over the coating A);
- and
- C) a layer of another ionically charged polymer having a charge opposite to the charge of the layer B) and equal to the charge of the coating A) which is over the layer B).
