Method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving scheduling assignments in a communication system

A User Equipment (UE) apparatus for receiving a Scheduling Assignment (SA) in a communication system in which a base station transmits the SA being a first type or a second type, and the SA including a set of Information Elements (IEs) and a first IE, the UE apparatus comprising:

• a transceiver configured to receive the SA;
• a de-multiplexer configured to de-multiplex each bit included in the set of IEs of the SA and at least one bit included in the first IE of the SA;
• a comparator configured to identify if each bit included in the first IE of the SA and the at least one bit included in the first IE of the SA are set with a predetermined value;
• and
• a controller for performing an action corresponding to the SA of the second type of the UE, if each bit included in the set of IEs of the SA and the at least one bit included in the first IE of the SA are set with the predetermined value.
