Image display apparatus and control method thereof

An image display apparatus capable of controlling, for each block obtained by dividing a region of a screen, an emission brightness of a light source unit based on image data of an inputted frame, the image display apparatus comprising:

• a detecting unit that detects a block in which a predetermined object which is smaller than a predetermined size is displayed;
• a determining unit that determines an object block that is a block in which a background and the predetermined object are displayed based on a detection result by the detecting unit;
• and
• a control unit that controls an emission brightness of the light source unit for each block, wherein
• the control unit controls an emission brightness of the object block based on an emission brightness of a block in which the background is displayed but the predetermined object is not displayed.

A control method of an image display apparatus capable of controlling, for each block obtained by dividing a region of a screen, an emission brightness of a light source unit based on image data of an inputted frame, the control method comprising:

• a detecting step of detecting a block in which a predetermined object which is smaller than a predetermined size is displayed;
• a determining step of determining an object block that is a block in which a background and the predetermined object are displayed based on a detection result in the detecting step;
• and
• a control step of controlling an emission brightness of the light source unit for each block, wherein
• in the control step, an emission brightness of the object block is approximated to an emission brightness of another block in which the background is displayed.

A control method of an image display apparatus capable of controlling, for each block obtained by dividing a region of a screen, an emission brightness of a light source unit based on image data of an inputted frame, the control method comprising:

• a detecting step of detecting a block in which a predetermined object which is smaller than a predetermined size is displayed;
• a determining step of determining an object block that is a block in which a background and the predetermined object are displayed based on a detection result in the detecting step;
• and
• a control step of controlling a backlight an emission brightness of the light source unit for each block, wherein
• in the control step, an emission brightness of the object block is controlled based on an emission brightness of a block in which the background is displayed but the predetermined object is not displayed.
