Abstract
Various methods and systems are provided for cooling exhaust system components. In one example, a system comprises heat shield surrounding at least a part of an engine exhaust passage valve positioned in an engine exhaust passage of an engine, and an air jet configured to direct compressed air into the heat shield. The heat shield contains the compressed air around an exterior of the at least the part of the engine exhaust passage valve.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a heat shield surrounding at least a part of an engine exhaust passage valve positioned in an engine exhaust passage of an engine;
- and
- an air jet configured to direct compressed air into the heat shield, the heat shield configured to at least partially contain the compressed air around an exterior of the at least part of the engine exhaust passage valve.
A method, comprising:
- directing compressed air onto an exterior of an engine exhaust passage valve, the compressed air at least partially contained around the engine exhaust passage valve by a heat shield.
A method, comprising:
- reducing heat radiated to an engine exhaust passage valve with a heat shield at least partially covering an exterior of the engine exhaust passage valve;
- directing air from a compressed air system to vehicle air brakes responsive to a braking request;
- and
- during select operating conditions, directing air from the compressed air system onto the exterior of the engine exhaust passage valve by directing the air into the heat shield.
