Abstract
Various methods and systems are provided for cooling exhaust system components. In one example, a method comprises directing compressed air onto an exterior of an engine exhaust passage valve.

A method, comprising:
- directing compressed air onto an exterior of an engine exhaust passage valve.
A method, comprising:
- directing air from a compressed air system to vehicle air brakes responsive to a braking request;
- and
- during select operating conditions, directing air from the compressed air system onto an exterior of an engine exhaust passage valve.
A system comprising:
- an engine having an engine exhaust passage and an engine exhaust passage valve;
- and
- a first air jet configured to direct compressed air onto an exterior of the engine exhaust passage valve.
