A brush section for use with an electric toothbrush includes a relatively large brush head portion having a generally rectangular shape, although oblong, elliptical and other such shapes having a length to width aspect ration greater than 1 may be employed. The brush head portion is secured to a shaft portion of the brush section that may be configured to couple to a handle section. The handle section may include an electric drive including drive shaft, and the drive shaft may couple to the brush head via a coupling member positioned within the shaft portion. The electric drive may impart a rotary, oscillating rotary-oscillating or other suitable drive motion to the drive shaft that is, in turn, imparted upon the brush head by virtue of the coupling member.

An electric toothbrush, comprising:
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of static contact elements and a plurality of movable contact elements arranged in rows generally transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rows being alternate rows of the static contact elements and the movable contact elements.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one movable contact element is mounted to the movable contact element holder supported within the brush head and which extend from the movable contact element holder through an aperture.
The electric toothbrush of claim 3, wherein the at least one movable contact element is mounted to the movable contact element holder at an angle.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one static contact element is attached to the brush head in a region opposite from the mounting tube.
The electric toothbrush of claim 5, wherein the at least one movable contact element is attached to the brush head in a region adjacent the mounting tube.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one movable contact element is attached to the brush head in a region opposite from the mounting tube.
The electric toothbrush of claim 7, wherein the at least one static contact element is attached to the brush head in a region adjacent the mounting tube.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact element holder extends axially along the longitudinal axis of the mounting tube from the at least one movable contact element.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein a cleaning motion comprises an oscillation of the at least one movable contact element at a frequency of from about 30 Hz to about 130 Hz.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one movable contact element further includes a second cleaning motion.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one movable contact element moves in a vertical sweeping direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the mounting tube.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the at least one movable contact element includes tufts having a plurality of individual filaments attached to the movable contact element holder with their longitudinal axis transverse to the direction of movement of the at least one movable contact element.
The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the mounting tube includes a profile ring having an inside contour complementary with an outside contour of the handle section in order to push-fit the brush section onto the handle section in a manner preventing relative rotation of the brush section with respect to the handle section.
The electric toothbrush of claim 2, wherein the plurality of static contact elements have a first height and the plurality of movable contact elements have a second height, different from the first height.
