Abstract
An application-switching program displays representations of applications, for example icons, on a screen of a device. As a user of the device navigates between the representations, a screen of the application to a representation of which the user has currently navigated is shown in the background of the display.

A method for switching between a first application and a second application running on a device having a processor coupled to a display and a memory, the method comprising:
- displaying a first application screen;
- displaying a subscreen that includes a representation for each of the first application and the second application, the subscreen obscuring a portion of the first application screen;
- and
- displaying a second application screen behind the subscreen without switching to the second application in response to a navigation to the representation of the second application.

An electronic device comprising:
- a processor;
- a display coupled to the processor;
- a memory coupled to the processor;
- an input element coupled to the processor;
- and
- a code module saved in the memory, the code module for configuring the processor to:
- display on the display a first application screen;
- display on the display a subscreen that includes a representation for each of the first application and the second application, the subscreen obscuring a portion of the first application screen;
- and
- display on the display a second application screen behind the subscreen without switching to the second application in response to an input from the input element indicating a navigation to the representation of the second application.
