Abstract
Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer readable media may be configured for improved predictive content caching. A system may determine a value that is a function of one or more rates at which a portion of a content item is being consumed and based on this value, may also calculate a projected position after a predetermined time period. By comparing the projected position to a dynamically adjustable threshold position for requesting a new portion of the content item, a determination may be made as to when to retrieve and/or cache a new portion of the content item.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- determining, at one or more computing devices, a first rate of consumption of a first portion of a content item at a first time;
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, a second rate of consumption of the first portion at a second time;
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, a value that is a function of the first rate of consumption and the second rate of consumption;
- and
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, one or more threshold positions for requesting a second portion of the content item.
A method comprising:
- determining, by one or more computing devices, a value that is a function of a first rate of consumption and a second rate of consumption through a first portion of a content item;
- determining, by the one or more computing devices, one or more threshold positions for requesting a second portion of the content item;
- determining, by the one or more computing devices, a projected position within the first portion based on the value;
- comparing, by the one or more computing devices, the projected position to the one or more threshold positions;
- and
- determining, by the one or more computing devices, whether to retrieve the second portion based on the comparing the projected position to the one or more threshold positions.
A method comprising:
- receiving, at one or more computing devices, information related to consumption of a first portion of a content item;
- based on the received information, determining, at the one or more computing devices, an average rate of consumption;
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, one or more threshold positions for requesting a second portion of the content item;
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, a projected position within the first portion based on the average rate;
- comparing, at the one or more computing devices, the projected position to the one or more threshold positions;
- and
- determining, at the one or more computing devices, whether to transmit the second portion to a device based on the comparing the projected position to the one or more threshold positions.
