Abstract
The present invention provides an expandable fusion device capable of being installed inside an intervertebral disc space to maintain normal disc spacing and restore spinal stability, thereby facilitating an intervertebral fusion. In one embodiment, the fusion device includes a central ramp, a first endplate, and a second endplate, the central ramp capable of being moved in a first direction to move the first and second endplates outwardly and into an expanded configuration. The fusion device is capable of being deployed down an endoscopic tube.
Claims19
An intervertebral implant comprising:
- a first endplate having a first end and a second end, the first endplate comprising an upper side, a lower side, first ramped surfaces proximate the first end, and second ramped surfaces proximate the second end;
- a second endplate having a first end and a second end, the second endplate comprising an upper side, a lower side, first ramped surfaces proximate the first end, and second ramped surfaces proximate the second end;
- a central ramp having a first end and a second end, the central ramp comprising a expansion portion at the first end and an extension extending from the expansion portion, the expansion portion comprising first ramped surfaces in engagement with the first ramped surfaces of the first endplate and second ramped surfaces in engagement with the second ramped surfaces of the second endplate;
- and
- a driving ramp comprising a bore extending through the driving ramp, the driving ramp comprising ramped surfaces in engagement with the first ramped surfaces of the second endplate;
- wherein the central ramp is configured to move in a first direction and cause the first endplate and the second endplate to move outwardly and away from one another
- wherein the driving ramp is coupled to an actuator assembly.
An intervertebral implant comprising:
- a first endplate having a first end and a second end, the first endplate comprising an upper side, a lower side, first ramped surfaces extending from the lower side proximate the first end, and second ramped surfaces extending from the lower side proximate the second end;
